In some circumstances, lessons may be completed in your own car. The vehicle must be registered, roadworthy, insured and suitable for a driving lesson. Please discuss this with DOS Driving School before booking.

Lesson duration depends on the service selected. We offer different lesson lengths and driving lesson packages, including extended sessions for parking, test preparation, city driving and freeway driving.

Preparation should include observation checks, correct speed control, safe gap selection, lane changes, parking, three-point turns and following examiner instructions. DOS Driving School offers test preparation lessons and mock tests to help identify areas that need improvement.

During the test, a VicRoads licence testing officer assesses whether you can drive safely and independently. You may be asked to complete normal road driving, lane changes, turns, parking and a low-speed manoeuvre while demonstrating safe observation and decision-making.

Common reasons include missing head checks, unsafe gap selection, incorrect speed, poor lane positioning, failing to give way, rolling through stop signs, inadequate observation and requiring examiner intervention.

Test-day vehicle packages may be available. These can include a lesson before the test and use of an instructor's vehicle for the VicRoads Drive Test. Availability depends on the instructor, test centre and booking time.

Yes. Our mock driving tests simulate important parts of the VicRoads Drive Test. Your instructor will assess your driving, explain mistakes and recommend areas to practise before your official test.
